College of Pharmacy Implements a Training Workshop at Amman Arab University on Occupational Clinical Evaluation (OSCE)

Amman – Coping with the vision of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University in developing the clinical skills of its students, qualifying them for the needs of the local and international labor market, and preparing them for a promising future in the field of pharmacy, College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University held a training workshop on Occupational Clinical Evaluation (OSCE) for faculty members, administrative staff and students of the training committee, and field session at the college, presented by the pharmaceutical expert, Dr. Ahmed Al-Rasasi.

The workshop included a detailed explanation provided by Dr. Al-Rasasi on how the assessment is conducted and its importance for obtaining a license to practice the pharmacy profession in some Western countries, providing interactive examples in the form of videos that were shown to explain the method of submitting and evaluating the exam, as the exam includes several stations, where tasks and cases are presented. A practical process for students to interact with, the content of the stations varies to include skills such as communicating with patients, evaluating prescriptions, solving pharmaceutical problems, guiding patients on medication use, dealing with emergency situations, etc., where students’ performance in each station is evaluated individually.

In turn, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor. Rana Abu Haweij, explained that the college has adopted this evaluation and will be applied as of the current semester 2023/2024, as students applying for the pharmaceutical training exam will be evaluated by evaluating their skills in ethical interaction with patients and demonstrating effective communication with them, and taking... Sound clinical decisions, and the application of theoretical knowledge in a practical context, as this qualitative approach to assessment provides an effective tool to evaluate students in a fair, objective, and comprehensive manner that is closer to field practice, which will contribute to developing students’ clinical capabilities and effectively preparing them for clinical practice in the field of pharmacy.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Al-Rasasi holds several professional certificates from Canada in the fields of pharmacy practice, and won two awards for excellence in 2004: the Distinguished Pharmaceutical Service Award and the Best Pharmaceutical Team Honor Award. He currently works as General Manager of Al-Noor Drug Store in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
