Prof. Al-Widyan Participated as a Keynote Speaker and Chair of a Session at the Higher Education and Sustainable Development Conference
President of Amman Arab University, Professor. Mohamad Al-Widyan, participated in the proceedings of the Fifth Arab Conference “Higher Education and Sustainable Development: The Role of Universities in Achieving Sustainable Development Objectives,” which was held in Cairo - Arab Republic of Egypt, lasted two days.
As a keynote speaker, Prof. Al-Widyan addressed the field of (requirements for integrating universities into plans to achieve sustainable development objectives) and explained during the presentation that universities play an active and vital role in activating the developmental role of Arab higher education institutions, and contributing to consolidating the concept of sustainable development and disseminating the culture of moral commitment to bear responsibility towards society, the environment, and people and creating an open-mined generation that undertakes both its social and humanitarian tasks.
Prof. Al-Widyan tackled the concept of sustainable development and global classifications related to sustainable development, in addition to the role of universities in sustainability and the importance of higher education institutions in sustainability. Prof. Al-Widyan also hinted at the obstacles confronting sustainable development, specifically the obstacles in higher education. Prof. Dr. Al-Widyan also chaired one of the sessions during the conference, which was entitled (Integrating the data of technological development and digital transformation in universities to enhance their capabilities to contribute to sustainable development), during which a number of experienced people with regard to sustainable development from several participating countries participated during this session.
It is noteworthy that Amman Arab University hosts the Arab Council for Sustainable Development, as the University recently organized the first international conference of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development at the university under the title (The Role of Arab Universities as Incubators for Sustainable Development: The Desired Reality), as this conference is one of the objectives of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development, headquartered at Amman Arab University
