An Initiative of Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University on the Risks of Excessive Use of Therapeutic Analgesics

Within the framework of the extracurricular and community activities of the College of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, the college organized a distinctive awareness initiative at the Sweileh Center for Community Services under the title "The Risks of Excessive Use of Therapeutic Analgesics", targeting local community women with the participation of a group of students from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University and under the supervision of Mai Al-Hawamdeh, and Dina Abu Saleh from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the university

The initiative aimed to highlight the challenges and risks resulted from the incorrect use of analgesics in order to ensure the safe and effective use of these drugs. Therefore, the improper use of analgesics can lead to the development of drug resistance, which reduces its effectiveness when the patient needs them in the future. Excessive dependence on analgesics can lead also to the development of addiction, which poses an additional health challenge .Finally, excessive consumption of analgesics has serious side effects on liver and kidney function, digestive problems, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, stomach irritation and mucous membrane erosion, which leads to stomach ulcers

This initiative is implemented within the framework of the commitment of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University and under the guidance of Prof. Mohamed Al-Widyan, President of the University, to direct pharmaceutical knowledge and skills towards serving the local community, which contributes to raising the level of awareness and improving the comprehensive understanding of the safe and effective use of medicines in the community.
