In a Joyous National Ceremony… Amman Arab University Renews Allegiance and Celebrates the Nation’s Glories on the Anniversary of the Battle of Al Karama and Jordan Flag Day

Under the patronage of Dr. Omar Mashhour Al-Jazy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Amman Arab University, the university family celebrated the immortal anniversary of the Battle of Al Karama and Jordan Flag Day in a patriotic atmosphere filled with pride and honor. The event renewed the pledge of allegiance to the nation and its leadership, affirming that these two occasions represent great symbols of national dignity, identity, and glory.

The ceremony was attended by: Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Widyan, President of Amman Arab University; Dr. Ghazi Al-Rabab’a, Military and Strategic Expert; Professor Dr. Ismail Yamin, Assistant President for Academic Affairs; Ms. Nadia Al-Qudimat, Assistant President for Financial and Administrative Affairs; Dr. Hussam Al-Hamad, Assistant President for Planning and Quality Assurance; Dr. Mohammed Bin Tarif, Dean of Student Affairs; along with college deans, members of the academic and administrative staff, and a large gathering of university students who participated in this historic national occasion.

In his speech, Dr. Al-Jazy emphasized that the Battle of Al Karama embodied the highest meanings of sacrifice and heroism, where brave Jordanian soldiers stood firm with their hands on rifle triggers, supported by their brothers in arms from the resistance under the banner of the Hashemite Arab Army. The First Division, led by the late Major General Mashhour Haditha Al-Jazy, had the honor of repelling the brutal aggression from the sacred soil of Jordan. They eagerly awaited the Israeli enemy, carrying their lives in their hands to confront enemy tanks on the banks of the eternal Jordan River, which the enemy had planned to cross to achieve its military objectives of eliminating resistance cells and striking Jordanian Army units stationed in the area. The enemy aimed to occupy the proud mountains of Salt to create a security buffer, as it had done in the occupied Golan Heights, and to terrorize civilians into abandoning their homes.

In his address, Dr. Al-Widyan stated that the Battle of Al Karama marked a new dawn in the history of the Arab nation and beloved Jordan, when the heroes of the Arab Army faced an enemy that believed the path was clear for occupation. He added that our valiant army taught the enemy a harsh lesson, debunking the myth of the "invincible army" and turning the mountains of Salt into a symbol of dignity and resilience.

Dr. Al-Widyan also noted that every year on April 16th, we raise the nation’s flag high, kiss its vibrant colors, and renew our pledge to the leader of the nation to remain loyal and devoted. He extended heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, praying to God Almighty to protect His Majesty and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince as pillars of strength for the nation and its loyal people, and to bring prosperity to Jordan.

For his part, Dr. Al-Rabab’a, one of the heroes of the Battle of Al Karama, shared his firsthand experiences with the audience, conveying to the younger generations the heroic scenes immortalized by the Jordanian Arab Army in that epic battle. He confirmed that the army was not caught off guard by the Israeli aggression, which was launched from three fronts with reinforced support, but was fully prepared. The enemy, however, was stunned by the resilience and determination of the Jordanian soldiers. The battle lasted 16 continuous hours, involving infantry and armored units, during which the Jordanian Army downed seven enemy aircraft, destroyed numerous vehicles, and captured over 40 of them. Dr. Al-Rabab’a stressed that the victory was not due to firepower alone but stemmed from deep-rooted faith and the unbreakable spirit of Jordanian fighters.

Dr. Bin Tarif highlighted that this national occasion is a renewed opportunity to pledge loyalty to the homeland, express deep pride in belonging to it, and reaffirm the readiness to serve and elevate the nation. He noted that celebrating the Jordanian flag is not merely about a fluttering banner but a living embodiment of national identity, unity, and the deep-rooted connection to this great nation.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Jordan Armed Forces Music Band delivered an outstanding musical performance, captivating the audience with a selection of patriotic pieces that radiated pride and honor. The melodies echoed throughout the university, adding grandeur to the occasion and reflecting the strength and unity of the nation. Poet Nasser Al-Degelby recited a patriotic poem expressing feelings of pride and glory, celebrating the immortal achievements of Jordanians in the nation’s history.
