In line with the directives of Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Widyan, President of Amman Arab University, to enhance the practical skills of students and connect them with labor market requirements, and as part of the College of Pharmacy's commitment to fostering academic and community engagement while encouraging knowledge exchange with local and international experts, the college hosted Dr. Alaa Shakib, who holds a Ph.D. in Health Services Management and currently serves as the Marketing Director at Al-Sharayeh Drug Warehouse.
Dr. Rana Abu Huwej, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, invited Dr. Shakib to deliver a practical lecture titled "Pharmaceutical Product Pricing Strategies and Cost Management: A Strategic Perspective for Decision-Making." The lecture was part of the course "Organizational Strategy for Pharmaceutical Development and Lifecycle Management" for Master’s students in Drug Vigilance and Regulatory Affairs.
The lecture focused on providing a practical and strategic framework for pharmaceutical pricing, highlighting key models used in the healthcare sector, such as cost-based pricing, value-based pricing, and competitive pricing. Dr. Shakib discussed how to analyze internal cost components, classify costs into direct and indirect, fixed and variable, and link them to appropriate pricing strategies. Additionally, he addressed the impact of regulatory and legal factors on pricing decisions and the importance of understanding customer-perceived value when pricing innovative products.
Practical examples and case studies were presented to illustrate informed pricing decisions in different market and competitive environments. The lecture witnessed remarkable interaction from the Master’s students, who showed great interest in the content and engaged in fruitful discussions on the practical aspects of pricing and cost management in the pharmaceutical industry.
At the end of the lecture, Dr. Abu Huwej thanked Dr. Shakib for his valuable efforts in delivering this informative and experience-rich session. She emphasized Amman Arab University's commitment to hosting experts and specialists to enhance students' applied knowledge, noting that such events bridge the gap between theory and practice, ultimately preparing qualified professionals for the local and international job market.
