Reflecting Amman Arab University’s commitment to establishing a smoke-free campus and fostering a healthy, tobacco-free environment, Dr. Celine Abu Ghosh, a pharmacist and member of the university’s Higher Committee for Tobacco Control, participated in the 14th Scientific Day for Tobacco Control. The event was organized by Petra University in collaboration with the Association of Universities for Tobacco and Smoking Control and under the patronage of the Cancer Control Office at the King Hussein Cancer Center.

The scientific day featured a series of awareness activities, including real-life testimonies from individuals adversely affected by smoking, highlighting the personal and societal suffering caused by this habit. Discussions also addressed modern tactics employed by tobacco companies to target youth, such as the promotion of e-cigarettes. Recent official statistics were presented, revealing a significant rise in smoking rates in Jordan—particularly among women—reflecting a troubling increase in smoking-related diseases, most notably cancer. Participants emphasized the importance of continuous awareness campaigns, smoking cessation counseling, and creating supportive environments to help smokers quit. They also stressed the pivotal role of educational institutions in fostering a culture of prevention and promoting public health.
