In line with the vision of Amman Arab University to empower its students academically and professionally and to strengthen their role in addressing public health issues, two students Layan Al-Salamat and Raneen Jbayti from the Faculty of Pharmacy participated in a training workshop titled: “Empowering University Students and Graduates with Awareness Skills on the Harms of Smoking and the Importance of Adopting Healthy Lifestyles.” The workshop was held at Jordan University of Science and Technology and organized by the Cancer Control Office at the King Hussein Cancer Center, in cooperation with the Jordanian Universities Union Association for Tobacco and Smoking Control.

The workshop aimed to equip students and graduates with comprehensive scientific knowledge about tobacco use locally and globally, and to provide them with the awareness skills needed to analyze the factors influencing its spread among adolescents and youth. The program covered several integrated topics, including the concept of tobacco addiction, its health consequences, and the impact of electronic nicotine delivery systems, in addition to the psychological and social dimensions associated with this phenomenon.

The workshop also included practical training sessions and applied case studies that enhanced participants’ ability to diagnose health problems related to smoking and refine their effective communication skills for delivering impactful awareness messages. This contributes to preparing young cadres capable of playing an active role as influencers in promoting public health within the university community and beyond.

The participation of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University reflects the university’s commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at reducing the spread of smoking and promoting a culture of healthy lifestyle adoption, particularly among young people. This stems from its academic and awareness-driven role and its social responsibility. The participation concluded with both students receiving training certificates qualifying them to serve as Health Ambassadors in awareness initiatives that support smoking cessation. This will help spread health awareness and reinforce sustainable positive behaviors within the university community and beyond, reflecting the university has continued commitment to protecting community health and enhancing quality of life.
