Amman Arab University (AAU) IT Students Excel in "Cyber Warriors" University Competition
Reflecting Amman Arab University's commitment to empowering students and enhancing their practical skills, the Faculty of Information Technology participated in the fourth edition of the "Cyber Warriors" (Capture the Flag) competition for universities. The competition targets university students aged 18 to 24 with a passion for cybersecurity, aiming to develop their skills, empower them, provide opportunities to learn new techniques, and build confidence in their knowledge of this vital field.
Over 300 students from various universities qualified for the final stage, engaging in eight consecutive hours of advanced technical challenges. These required high-level skills in reverse engineering, cryptography, digital forensics, and malware analysis. Designed to simulate real-world cybersecurity scenarios, the challenges tested participants' problem-solving abilities under pressure, teamwork skills, and application of theoretical knowledge in practical situations mirroring labor market needs.
Representing Amman Arab University's Faculty of Information Technology were four student teams, supervised by Dr. Kamal Alyan, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of IT, and Dr. Manar Mazhar, Head of the Cybersecurity Department. The teams reached the finals following outstanding performance in the preliminary stages, with one team achieving an advanced position among the top 20 teams out of 90 participating teams. This accomplishment demonstrates the readiness of the Faculty's students to tackle complex technical challenges and their capacity to compete effectively in cybersecurity at both local and national levels.
In this regard, Dr. Rami Sahwil, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at Amman Arab University, emphasized the importance of student participation in such specialized competitions. He noted their role in refining practical skills, enhancing field experience, and connecting academic knowledge with real-world applications. Dr. Sahwil expressed gratitude to all teams representing the Faculty throughout the competition stages, commended their preparation and competitive efforts, and stressed the necessity of continued participation in local, regional, and international competitions due to their positive impact on student competency development and expanding their horizons in technology and cybersecurity fields.
This participation aligns with the directives of Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Widyan, University President, toward embodying Amman Arab University's role in empowering students and enhancing their practical skills. This is achieved through engagement in specialized competitions and events that enable them to gain experience, develop capabilities, keep pace with the latest developments in modern technical fields, and nurture their spirit of innovation and creativity.
