“Ask the Pharmacist”: Amman Arab University (AAU) Launches Initiative to Promote Pharmaceutical Awareness and Professional Responsibility
The Field Training Committee at the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University, in collaboration with pharmacy students, organized a health awareness initiative titled “Ask the Pharmacist”. The initiative was supervised by Dr. Mai Al-Hawamdeh, Chair of the Committee, with the participation of faculty members and a select group of students from the college.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about proper medication use and highlight the vital role pharmacists play in providing trusted pharmaceutical consultation—contributing to the safe and effective use of medicines among university students and staff.
The event witnessed a high level of engagement and participation, with 35 pharmacy students providing simplified and scientifically sound consultations. They responded to visitors’ questions regarding correct medication usage, drug interactions, adherence to treatment plans, side effects, and prevention of medication errors. The initiative also included awareness sessions on the health risks of smoking in all its forms, and strategies for smoking cessation.
Approximately 200 students from various academic disciplines at the university benefited from the initiative, reflecting its broad impact.
This initiative underscores Amman Arab University’s and the Faculty of Pharmacy’s commitment to empowering students to take an active role in serving the university community and fostering a strong sense of professional responsibility. Activities like these serve as a cornerstone in preparing academically and ethically qualified pharmacists capable of making a meaningful difference in society.
The event also provided a hands-on learning environment where students could strengthen their communication skills, build confidence, and embrace responsibility—reflecting the true role of pharmacists as essential members of the healthcare team. Their role extends beyond dispensing medication to include public education, guidance, and promoting rational drug use.
