Amman Arab University (AAU) Pharmacy Students Present Recommendations to Enhance Safe Medication Use

In line with promoting scientific research and student innovation, and reflecting Amman Arab University's commitment to providing an academic environment that supports creativity and develops students' research capabilities, students from the Faculty of Pharmacy presented their distinguished research projects. The event was attended by Professor Dr. Rana Abu Huwej, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; Dr. Sara Nasir Al-Din, Assistant Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Adel Ardakani, Head of the Pharmacy Department; along with a number of faculty members and students.

The research was presented in the form of posters as part of the "Pharmacy Practice" course, which utilizes modern learning methods and active learning with project-based assessment. The projects addressed topics relevant to daily pharmaceutical practice, providing students with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge practically, enhance their independent analysis skills, and gain experience in designing scientific studies and practically following up on results.

The projects focused on studying some common errors in the use of certain medications and monitoring the side effects of drugs such as painkillers, cinnamon pills, Ozempic, vitamins, dietary supplements, and ashwagandha. Additionally, they analyzed community awareness regarding certain emergency uses without medical supervision, such as the use of potassium iodide in cases of radiation exposure protection or thyroid disorders. For their studies, the students developed questionnaires and conducted field surveys to gather public opinions and analyze prevailing medication usage patterns. This effort aims to raise community awareness about the importance of safe and rational drug use, reduce risks associated with side effects, and ultimately develop practical recommendations that enhance the pharmacist's vital role in protecting patient health.

For her part, Dr. Abu Huwej emphasized that these research projects reflect the level of academic and practical excellence that the Faculty of Pharmacy at Amman Arab University strives to instill. She praised the students' efforts in linking theoretical knowledge with practical applications, considering these initiatives a pioneering step in preparing a generation of pharmacists capable of effectively contributing to the development of the local and regional healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
