
Faculty of Law at Amman Arab University Participates in Legal Symposium at Jordanian Writers Union
Dr. Mohammad Al-Salamat and Dr. Mohammad Al-Shahin from the Faculty of Law at Amman Arab University took part in a specialized legal symposium discussing recent developments in national legislation. Hosted by the Jordanian Writers Union, the event gathered prominent law professors from the university to examine significant amendments to national laws and their legal and social consequences.
The symposium, organized by the Cultural Committee of the Jordanian Writers Union, was chaired by Lawyer Dr. Emad Al-Mahamid Al-Abbadi, who opened with a general discussion of various legal provisions. Dr. Al-Salamat presented on alternatives to debtor imprisonment under the new Execution Law, explaining how the legislation introduces balanced solutions to protect creditors' rights while maintaining debtor dignity. These include asset seizure, salary garnishment, asset liquidation, and structured repayment plans - all designed to provide fair outcomes without resorting to incarceration.
Dr. Al-Shahin addressed the new Cybercrime Law, detailing its provisions against digital offenses such as hacking, online fraud, digital extortion, and inappropriate content dissemination. He explained the law's strict penalties including substantial fines and imprisonment, along with its role in strengthening cybersecurity and protecting digital rights.
The event drew an impressive audience of writers, journalists, legal specialists, and law students, who engaged in extensive discussions that enriched the dialogue. This gathering reflects the Union's efforts to foster connections between academic experts and the broader community while promoting legal literacy during this period of rapid legislative change.
