Launching the Activities of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development in Arab Universities
 
 Amman - Arab Council for Sustainable Development in Arab Universities held its first meeting at Amman Arab University in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan today, Wednesday 11/30/2022, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, His Excellency Dr. Amr Salama, and the Assistant Secretary-General Prof. Khamisi Hamidi, with the participation of six presidents of  Arab universities from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Syria and the United Arab Emirates, where they discussed the role that the Council will play in promoting the values of sustainable development and setting standards of sustainability in Arab universities to participate in bearing responsibility towards society, the environment and man, in implementation of the decisions of the Association of Arab Universities that was held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan  In March 2022.

 The meeting was opened by Prof. Mohamad Al-Widyan, President of Amman Arab University / President of the Council, with a speech in which he explained the importance of starting to apply the concepts of sustainable development in the higher education sector in the Arab world in order to keep pace with the needs of the present and meet the needs of future generations and develop their capabilities.  He added that achieving the sustainable development goals endorsed by the United Nations is a development plan and a fundamental turning point in the concept of sustainability for governments and various entities.

 For his part, the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, His Excellency Prof. Amr Salama, reviewed the importance of the role of this council to achieve the goals of sustainable development in Arab universities and to spread integration between various fields and activities and encourage towards achieving a balance between social, economic and environmental sustainability.

 Assistant Secretary-General, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Khamisi Hamidi, also affirmed the members' keenness to assume responsibility for this stage, which requires real cooperation between the Council and Arab universities to play their pioneering role in advancing the higher education sector, providing cultural and social services, and building a generation that carries out its professional and humanitarian tasks to achieve the goals of sustainable development for Arab societies.

 During the meeting, the Council also discussed several topics related to the work of the Council, including the selection of Prof. Ikhlas Al-Tarawneh / Vice President of the Amman Arab University for Academic Affairs as Director of the Arab Council for Sustainable Development in the Association of Arab Universities, in addition to the interventions made by the attending university presidents regarding the methodology of the Council's work and its future plan.

 The meeting was attended by Dr. Omar Asaad/College of Engineering, Dr. Motea Al-Shibli/College of Business, Ms. Buthaina Al-Qadoumi/Director of the Councils Secretariat, and Ms. Dina Mahmoud/ Supervisor of Institutions Follow-up Unit from the Association of Arab Universities.
